The greatest way to rid yourself of clutter and reorganize your life is by moving. Moving provides the perfect opportunity for getting rid of things you no longer use, no longer need, or no longer want. You can easily give your unwanted items to friends, donate them to charity, or use them to make a little extra cash on the side! When packing, put all your unwanted items to the side, and then consider one or all of the following options:

Online Auctions:

A great way to get rid of your items in the quickest and most lucrative manner is by selling them online. Personally, I am a fan of eBay. With eBay, you must first register as a seller, create a username, and begin an e-store. You can list items on eBay complete with photos, descriptions, and a beginning asking price. Ideally, your item will be bid on by several people, thus increasing the selling price. On eBay, items can go for several times the asking price, which often ends up being more than the item initially cost you. You have the option of browsing other items that are similar to yours in order to come up with a fair starting price. Also, if you are in a hurry to sell, you can create a "buy it now" option for any user who wishes to overpass bidding and purchase your item at the price that you choose. It's easy, simple, and fun. The only downside to online actions is that you have to send your items out to the bidder in a timely and effective manner. Attention should be paid to presentation and packing, as those are factors likely to influence your eBay ratings.

Garage Sales:

Garage sales are as simple as using eBay, but are more time consuming. To have one, you must dedicate one or two full days to the event, and put some planning into them. Be sure to alert friends and family of your garage sales in advance. Also, you can put our fliers around the neighborhood, or even pay a fee to have a listing in your local paper. On the day of the sale, put out all your items in an attractive and coherent manner. Be ready to negotiate, as many people will try to pay less than your asking price. Have newspaper, boxes, and bags on hand for packing your items. Also, you might consider serving some form of refreshments- nothing fancy, lemonade and fruit will do.

Donation:

Finally, you can donate the items you don't sell. Many stores accept charity donations which can be used towards a tax deduction. Libraries do the same, and will accept most of your old books and even magazines. The Salvation Army, UNICEF, and The Lion's Club are just a few examples.
